Author: I have connected the digital out cable from the tv to the receiver, but the sound is still coming through the tv’s speakers. The inputs that I would like to come through the receiver are the TV, PS2, and my Laptop which is connected to the tv through a hdmi.

You have to connect optical or composite cables ( red & white ) directly from cable box, PS2 and laptop to receiver.

If your TV has a digital audio out port you may need to adjust the TV settings for it to work. But most TVs won’t pass more than two channel audio. You need to hook your devices directly into the receiver if you want to get surround sound out of them.
