I remember once when my cousin’s wedding day was approaching. She is a real perfectionist. Everything had to be perfect and ‘just so’. The cake had to be decorated like she wanted, the flowers had to be absolutely perfect etc. With her rushing around and us in the middle, it was like being in the middle of a hurricane.
First she didn’t really who to put on her guest list and was leaving loads of people out. Then she didn’t have a clue what to put on her wedding list. She was going a bit overboard putting every tiny little thing down.
Then there were the people who phoned her up to tell her what they wanted to give her, so those things went on the list too. Her Great Aunt came round with a catalogue of quilt sets of all things. They sat there for a good afternoon looking at the different pictures and deciding on a good color scheme. As Aunty Bee said, she was shopping for two now, so she had to take her husband-to-be into consideration too. He had opinions too, she said.
Then my Mom said she wanted to get them something nice and memorable, because we have been best friends forever. So I took her to see the ‘giant pictures’ my friend always liked in the arcade, but my Mom said that she wasn’t going to buy them any photos of men riding horses in the sea. What did it all mean? My Mom said. So in the end, she got them a dining room set.
You know, everyone has to eat don’t they? We thought that every time they sat down to a romantic dinner together they could think of us. And they could invite us round too! So that settled that.
So anyway, the day before the big day came and we were looking at all the presents which had already arrived. Mom’s set was there, and my bracelet and tie pin and a load of other stuff. Most of the big bulky stuff was already there you know. But my friend was looking a bit puzzled like there was something missing.
On your special day, you can sit back and relax (almost!) if you have planned well and everything is as it should be. If you have done your job well, you should have the right number of presents of the sort you like, and only one quilt set!
Looking for wedding gift ideas for a couple who have been together since time immemorial but have recently decided to have a ceremony and tie the knot is not easy. And it gets further complicated when you work 60 hours a week, shopping for you is a pain, and worse still, your better half took up the responsibility but than dumped it on you at the last minute. I was faced with such a situation a couple of years ago and found myself in a quandary and wondering what to do next, when my secretary came up with a brilliant solution – the online shopping gift store!

A quick and painless Google and there were a whole lot of different wedding gifts online in front of me. Now to just choose something that was appropriate. How about matching cute Bride and Groom beanie bears, wedding bride and groom coffee mugs, n our wedding day photo frame or a gorgeous set of wedding toasting glasses? They all looked so good and deciding was a bit hard but as I was pressed for time I did the only thing a gal could do which was did the eenie-meeenie-mini-mo thing and just picked one!

Then it was a simple matter of placing the order, paying for it with some plastic and having it promptly delivered via priority post to my office. It was even gift wrapped. Talk about saved the day; especially as it was my mother’s wedding to the new man she had met on her Caribbean cruise last year! Got to love those whirlwind cruise ship romances! Oh and of course like every good son; I also booked them a terrific diving adventure escape to the Cook Islands. They are heading off there when they get back from their honeymoon! Hope they like the gorgeous photo frame I picked out as well.

There are lots of brides and grooms that register through specific stores for wedding gifts ideas, but there is a large section of people who don’t take the trouble to do it or simply doesn’t believe in it. That leaves the onus on you to choose the gift. The trick is to find wedding gifts that are unique, special and not too heavy on the wallet. In these days of recession and pay cuts it requires thought to come up with a gift that is affordable but still does not make you look cheap. Especially when the groom is someone special to you like your brother and you are his best man, then although he might tell you that he is not expecting a gift in these circumstances, it is expected that you still give a decent gift.

Firstly; head over to Google and simply type in “wedding gifts” and see what comes up. Set your budget and start narrowing down from there. A good rule of thumb is that if it’s going to mean you cannot afford to eat dinner for the next couple of weeks it’s too expensive. Miss out on a few beers at the pub with your mates; well you know the answer to that one!

Take a little look online and voila; there they are! You know firsthand that those cups got used for an entire year; so that would be a good pick for sure.
