Women can be extremely hard to buy gifts for, especially when you’re baffled by the myriad of female orientated products in most stores.

Christmas is always a difficult time of year for parents, as they try to juggle personal finances with getting their kids the perfect and in-demand gift. So to attempt to help out parents a little, here’s a head start on what looks like being the top trends in toys for 2010.
With the country still trying to pull themselves out of a national recession, spending is at an all-time low and many of the hot toys this year will reflect this, often coming in at £50 or less. This will hopefully make life a little easier for parents, as it’s more likely they’ll be able to afford the hottest Christmas gifts of this year.
This years top toys, as with many previous years, are likely to include characters from the most popular film and TV shows in the country, as well as some old favourites.
For presents for young boys, you should be trying to find out which characters from mainsteam media have become most popular. Toy Story, Transformers and Shrek immediately spring to mind, with Buzz Lightyear almost guaranteed to be a favourite amongst young children. You can expect to see a rush for any Transformer toys, and probably any kind of toy that follows the Transformers mould. With the release of Shrek 4 this year, any toys based on characters from the film are also likely to be very popular Christmas gifts for him or her.
I can imagine RC helicopters, or any kind of remote control vehicle also being very popular with young boys this year.
If you’re trying to find a gift for a young girl, you should look towards popular TV shows like Peppa Pig, as they’re extremely likely to be just as popular when they release Christmas toys. Likely to be similarly popular is Dora the Explorer, Hanna Montana and Bratz, the latter appearing as a popular brand last year as well.
Sylvanian Family toys have been consistently popular with young children over the last few years, and it’s fairly likely that they’ll continue to be popular for Christmas 2010. If your child is slightly older, the GOGO Hamsters or Kidizoom Camera would both make an ideal Christmas gift for her.
It can be tough coming up with interesting and thoughtful presents for your loved ones year after year. A lot of people also suggest that they find certain family members much harder to buy for (dads are usually the most difficult).
But there are plenty of great and unusual Christmas gifts out there, you just need to be able to think outside of the box a little bit.
Experiences make superb Christmas gifts, and they often get totally overlooked. Yes, they can be reasonably expensive, but in general they’re no more expensive than a lot of the modern technology and gadgetry that people give as gifts during the festive season.
For a male relative, you might want to consider track racing days, fishing trips, golf days, etc. there are numerous choices and all are available to buy online and any of them would make perfect Christmas gifts for him.
If you’re shopping for gifts for a women, there are still lots of options open to you. You can go for spa treatments, wine tasting days, make-overs or hot air balloon rides. What’s really good about these kinds of gifts is that not only can they be unwrapped on Xmas morning, but they can then be shared and remembered.
If experiences are out of your price range, you don’t need to worry. There are several other creative ways you can put together a memorable gift for your relatives.
Photographs often make a really nice gift, if done right. If the person you’re buying for has a favourite place, memory, person, etc. then get some photos that relate and frame them nicely. You could even get the photos enlarged and stretched onto a canvas frame. It’s inexpensive and not hard to find someone who can do it, but it will have a real impace on the person you give it to.
Just those two ideas should give you an idea of how creative you can get with presents for Christmas, you don’t need to just go into town with a few hundred pounds and buy everything from the high street. Spend some time thinking about what you think is important to the people you love and pretty quickly you should be able to come up with a wealth of ideas.
