My bet is that before long wi-fi will be everywhere and we will no longer have to pay a "cell" phone bill. Instead, we will have to pay a "wi-fi" bill and Cell Phones will be designed to connect using the web.

Eventually, I think all televisions and radios will also use the wi-fi for reception.

That’s optimistic. Who’s going to be paying for all that wifi? Most municipalities that planned to set up wifi networks have dialed back or canceled their plans. It’s simply too expensive.

Other way around wifi will be obsolete and cellphone networks will take its place. We are only on 3g speeds and will take about 5 more years till we reach nicer speeds to even be considered a major upgrade to real 4g. Cell towers are much easier to maintain and quicker to connect more users then wired its a fact. We had a hurricane in Florida cellphones up first before landlines. Earthquake in Haiti Cell towers and laptops using cell towers were the first to communicate. It just happens landlines are quicker at transmitting data for the time being remember Asia already has speeds 100x faster then in the U.S and faster then the rest of the world they download in gb’s.

Main problem with Wifi always been is its limited in area meaning yes Att and the like have wifi hotspots but each individual place has different wifi networks and not a main consistent stream of entry points. Areas try to broaden their wifi connections finding it much more expensive then cell tower technology and don’t really go forward with it (cities, etc) at the end cell tower tech will become more available, faster, and easier to maintain.

Serious tvs already have wifi just connect your laptop to it or get a gaming system its been done.
You can rent movies to your laptop and play them to your tv gaming systems as well.

also landline phone + dsl is more expensive then voice plan and data. Minus landline and use vonage or skype still limited to the house unless you have them on a smartphone.
